1,000+ Rounds & No Problems!

This would be my first firearm from Rock Island Armory. I had heard of them previously, but wasn’t sure about them. That is, until I got the deal for this in my inbox and had to go for it.

The first thing I will say is that the sites are absolute junk. They look cool, but that is it. The factory sites are adjustable, but I had both of them maxed out to the right and it was still shooting to the left by a big margin. I had a red/green dot site just lying around that I put on the Picatinny and it shoots great and straight.

The rifle is like 90% polymer, but it is pretty good quality and is not made of some cheap-toy grade plastic or something like I was honestly halfway expecting. The gun is solid and simple. Aside from this gun being magazine fed, and the charging handle on the left, it feels a lot like my Marlin 22 in terms of weight and how it feels to shoot. In fact, this gun is quite a bit more maneuverable and thanks to the adjustable stock, a little more comfortable.

Something else that I really like about this particular rifle, is that there’s a certain online retailer that sells 25 round magazines for this gun for 25 bucks a pop. I ordered myself three of them and proceeded to have an absolute blast. Between the two 10 round mags it comes with and the three 25 rounders, we go through 95 rounds just as fast as you can pull the trigger and swap magazines. I started with a box of 1100 federal “black pack“ rounds and have gotten into some Remington, CCI, and some very old Winchester ammo from somewhere around 1995 and it didn’t discriminate at all. I even mixed and matched rounds from all of the different makes in the same magazines and this rifle did not care. I would also like to mention that I have only had maybe two feed errors through all of this ammo. Both errors had the shell casing not get ejected all the way, and I am 99% sure that was on the really old Winchester ammo because the two that happened to fail to eject, sounded weak when I squeezed the trigger.

This is a really fun gun to shoot, and not being a “gun snob“, it’s even more fun that it was such a cheap purchase.
